Dave used an effective car analogy and asked us to consider a few key questions1. What fuels your engine - Are we being fueled by a desire and love for Christ and Christ-likeness Are we being filled up by God's Word and love for us Is that what keeps our motors running 2. Who's behind the wheel - Who's driving our lives Who's in control of our direction Is it us or have we allowed God to take control3. Are you studying the right Owner's Manual - Is God's Word The Bible being read and used to make sure we're running properly Do we have regular accountability to help us keep our maintenance up 4. What's in your trunk - Are there things that we've been toting around but not dealt with Is your trunk packed with junk that needs to be dealt with unpacked and disposed ofAs we prepare for the Lenten Season as well as the Unbound Conference - reflection upon these questions may be an important step in the healing of families. Dave asked some poignant questions about whether we have- a PASSION to reach the world - a passion to love live and lead like Jesus - a desire and the ability to dream the dreams and visions of God.Dave emphasized that the love of God and His sacrifice of His only son Jesus for our sins is a transformational and dynamic message that our lives should reflect and that the world is in need of. Sun, 7 Feb 2010 09:00:00 GMT Hope For the Long Haul Curt Gentry Hope in 2010 - Hope Pastor Curt shares on having more than just hope thorugh specific situations but rather "Hope For the Long Haul." He reminds of some important truths to remember in our daily lives which he refers to as the "3 Handles on Having Hope for the Long Haul." 1. Love - God's love is an unconditional love agape the type of love that loves desires and acts for the other's best interests. If Christ is your SAVIOR then you are blameless and cleared of guilt. You are God's child and loved unconditionally. By remembering that really believing that there is hope - for God has your best interests in mind.  Curt reminds us that not only did God save us FROM the sinful things of our past but also saves us FOR something. 2. Lordship - The analogy Curt uses here is that of a house. If your life is a house have you opened all the doors to each room and invited God in Have you allowed God to go through each of the rooms closets and drawers Have you kept those places open to Him Or have you closed them and taken those rooms back for your own desires and control Lordship is about letting go of all the things you are in control of asking God to take control and making the daily decision to allow Him to be LORD in all areas of your life. Have you already given or do you desire to give God Lordship in your life3. Legacy - Curt focused on the story of Paul found in Philippians 120-24. Paul understood the mission that God has given us; the mission to advance the Gospel - His Love for UsSacrifice of His Son Jesus. Paul understood that in life or death the mission to advance the Gospel was his purpose and most important legacy.Scripture References used include Philippians 13-14 20-24 and Ephesians 422-24 hope, love, lordship, legacy, Curt, Gentry, Hope in 2010, handles, righteousness Curt Gentry Pastor Curt shares on having more than just hope thorugh specific situations but rather "Hope For the Long Haul." A look at the history of religion and the development of the church reveals the lack of a wholistic approach to reaching out to pre-Christians. Some groups have reached out by meeting the physicalsurvival needs while other groups have addressed only the spiritual issues. Dave explained that Christ did not address only one of our areas of need but rather all. He came to not only talk about His Father's love but also to demonstrate it.  He did that by meeting our physical needs through miracles of healing and food multiplication. He revealed our sinful nature and need for His forgiveness and grace. He met that need by His death on the cross. Christ had no other motive but to love us unconditionally. As we ponder Christ's love for us let us also consider those in our circle of influence a neighbor friend or family member would benefit from that same unconditional love. Bro Paul Holderfield -none- - Mercy We have the privilege of welcoming our speaker this morning Brother Paul Holderfield from Friendly Chapel Church of the Nazarene in North Little Rock Arkansas. Friendly Chapel Church of the Nazarene was started in 1972 by Bro Paul Holderfield Sr along with his wife Barbara and their three children. The heart of starting the church was to reach the young people of the surrounding desperate neighborhood. The church is located in a high-crime area near the Arkansas River in N. Little Rock. Friendly Chapel is widely known for their work among the youth compassionate ministries to the down-and-out and homeless along with confronting and overcoming prejudice. Through the ministry of the "Soup Kitchen" hundreds are fed daily with sack lunches. Visitors know that they will always receive more than a meal; they will see love of Christ in the flesh.Bro Paul Sr passed away in 1998. Soon after his son Paul Jr became the pastor and has continued that heart for "others." Over the last 8 years hundreds of CrossRoads teens and adults have had the opportunity to share in the passion to minister at Friendly Chapel. Those who have had the opportunity to go know that it is a unique place. We look forward to a great day today with Bro Paul and his wife Kathy. The table is place where Jesus welcomes us to come commune and dine with Him. So often we feel unworthy of sitting with Jesus of approaching His table but this message reminds us that He has reserved a seat for us at His table; a seat of mercy grace and love. We are invited to come to the Table. The following Sunday in the sermon "Being at the Table" Pastor Dave reminded us of how Jesus often sat and ate with His disciples around the table talking communing listening and teaching. The table was and is a place of accountability discussion support and community; a banquet table of experiences and life lessons spiritual struggles and growth victories and celebrations. It is a place where we are invited to be an encouragement to each other in prayer and action.  This last Sunday of "The Table" series Pastor Dave challenged us in "Pushing Away from the Table." Now that we accepted the invitation to come to the table to be forgiven we have communed with Jesus our personal Savior it is time for us to take what we  have learned about how to love and live and share it with the world. Have you stepped up to the table Are you sitting at the table Have you pushed away from the table What is God asking you to do Follow His leading and calling on your life. We experience problems setbacks and failures every day. But during the hardest parts of life when everything seems so uncertain where do we turn for peace  Where do we turn when we feel like life is pressing in and we need the oxygen of hopeGod never said that the solutions would be easy or that we would always be spared pain on the journey of life. But he did say He would be with us. He does offer His cross as an anchor of hope no matter what we face. And more than just enduring through tough times the hope we find in Him allows us to leverage our hardest moments for His fame. When life hurts the most that is when the world listens most intently to our message allowing Christians to broadcast the goodness grace and power of the One who demonstrates His life and love through us even when all of the temporary things on which we depend seem so uncertain.  Jesus never said it would be easy but He did promise it would be worth it. Sun, 21 Dec 2008 09:00:00 GMT Be Prepared Dave Sharpes Advent CrossRoads 2008 - Advent During Christmas we are often reminded of "the reason for the season" and "the spirit of Christmas" referring to the fact that Christmas is about so much more than giving or getting. The Early Church celebrated the Advent season four weeks prior to Christmas each week building on the other in anticipation of the birth of Christ. It was more than giving or getting and more than an attitude. It was spiritual preparation for the coming of the Son of God the Creator of the Universe the Savior of the world.Advent is not only a celebration of Christ's coming to earth and dwelling among us it is a celebration of the life of Christ.  Advent looks beyond the season of Christmas and extends our celebration and rejoicing throughout the year.  It is a time of personal reflection community festivities and extreme thankfulness.   In the transition from Christmas to Advent the way we celebrate should change. We must alter how we view this holiday and celebrate it in a way that is worthy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Have you ever noticed how Scripture doesn't glamorize Jesus' life Let us remember that Jesus had no place to lay his head Luke 958; some might say that Jesus was homeless.  Scripture tells us He was born in a manger walked everywhere rode donkeys washed feet stayed with friends drank from wells like everybody else went to the poor and needy and dined with sinners. Jesus challenged the young ruler to get rid of his riches and give to the poor Luke 12. He reminds us not to lay up treasure in heaven Matthew 620 he tells us not to hoard Luke 12 and Scripture tells us the root of all evil is the love of money 1 Timothy 610. Jesus was more concerned with living than He was with having. As we celebrate Advent together let us consider how Christ is speaking to us what He is asking us to be concerned with and how we can go about celebrating His life not only throughout this season but year-round. This Advent may the Holy Spirit transform this Christmas season beyond shopping and busyness and radically revolutionize our hearts and minds to be like Jesus.
